The long-awaited -- at least by myself -- "new" Selena Quintanilla tracks are finally here. So what's the verdict? Simply said, they blow.

Well, "blow" might be a little harsh. The music, at least from a technical standpoint, actually sounds flawless. So, then, how can something that sounds flawless suck? It sucks because it's unnecessary.

We, the fans, were promised new material. So what do we get? Selena classics that have been stripped from their originality, and turned into generic radio songs (different kinds of generic songs, mind you, but still generic). How whack is Enamora De Ti? Well, Techno Cumbia, a CUMBIA, was turned into reggaeton -- in 2012! A time when mainstream Latino press has killed the played-out genre.

I've been bracing myself for this disaster, but actually listening to the whole thing is making my eyes roll all the way to the back of my head. The one song that's eerily semi-magical is the Selena Gomez collaboration:

I dunno. There's just something about the two pochas singing together que me emociona.
